There is a neat trick where if you take a windows Word ‘.docx’ file and rename the file as a ‘.zip’ file and then unzip the file with Windows or winrar, the resultant output will include various files including your picture file.

The complication in doing this I have found is:

  1. Windows makes it difficult for you to change the file extension from ‘docx’ to ‘zip’. Depending on your version of Windows you will need to find where Windows will let you see and edit the extension.
  2. The resultant output from the zip extraction is a number of files and folders and if you do not know the name of the picture file, you may need to search in several folders and sub-folders to actually find the picture file.

While there are a couple of challenges to extracting the picture file, if needed, the above ‘trick’ should work beautifully for you.
